Korea joined ICID in 1969 as an ICID member country. With the background of long history of irrigation in Korea, KCID held 52nd IEC Meeting and 1st Asian Regional Conference in Seoul in 2001 and KCID won the 1st Best Performing National Committee Award at 18th ICID Congress in Montreal, Canada in 2002. In 2014, KCID held the 22nd ICID Congress in Gwangju, Korea.
Our aim is to intensify the redevelopment of agricultural community through scientific research and extended technologies regarding irrigation, drainage, flood control, river improvement and environmental sustainability. Moreover, the Committee holds and participates in various global and national conferences to keep track with ICID matters and strengthen international relations, and also publishes bulletins, journals and periodic newsletters for active sharing of information and wide distribution of technology.
The importance of water resources including drinking water and agricultural water supplies is increasingly emphasized as the world becomes more aware of the direct connection of water with food security.
Accordingly, Korea makes an effort to adopt Smart Water Grid and Integrated Water Resources Management for the prevention of natural disaster like flood and drought associated with climate change. In addition, KCID is doing its best in technology development to harmonize with human and nature, like slogan of 2014 ICID congress “Flow The Water, Flourish The World”, so that water can be provided wherever and whenever it is needed.
It is mostly anticipated that our website becomes a place where our members can discuss and exchange information among each other for the betterment of all of us.
