24th International Congress on Irrigation and Drainage and 71st International Executive Council (IEC) Meetings will be organized by Irrigation Australia’s Committee on Irrigation and Drainage (IACID) in co-operation with ICID during 22-28 September 2020 at Sydney, Australia. The main theme of the Congress is ‘Innovation and Research in Agricultural Water Management to Achieve Sustainable Development Goals’.

We invite you all to submit an ‘Extended Abstract’ by 31 January 2020. The ‘Call for papers’ of the 24th ICID Congress is available at http://congress.icidevents.org/24cong_callforpapers.pdf for your kind information and abstract submission.

Learning from history, Nagano area prepared for October flood
13 January 2020
Three months after Typhoon No. 19 struck Japan, I visited the Naganuma district of the prefectural capital of Nagano, also known by its old name of Shinshu, a major apple growing area. The Naganuma district is close to where torrential rain triggered by the typhoon in October caused the banks of the Chikumagawa river to give way.

Water from overflowing ponds used for farming
19 January 2020
The Command Area Development Authority (CADA) has proposed using surplus water from overflowing ponds in villages for irrigation to reduce usage of groundwater for the purpose. The CADA has studied 11 ponds in villages in Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Ambala and Yamuna Nagar districts. After testing water and calculating daily available runoff, the area which can be irrigated from surplus water was calculated on the basis of crop water requirement in 11 villages, CADA officials said.

Crow Algorithm for Irrigation Management: A Case Study

This study employed a new evolutionary algorithm namely, the crow algorithm (CA), to optimize reservoir operation and minimize irrigation water deficit. Comprehensive analysis have been carried out between the proposed CA algorithm and other algorithms such as Prticle Swarm optimization (PSO), Shark Algorithm (SA), Genetic Algorithm (GA), and Weed Algorithm (WA).
