Greenland’s Stunning Natural Beauty is Now Rife with Warning Signs of Climate Change
02 February 2020
Anyone looking for all too obvious symbols of global warming—the chunks of ice melting in the sunlight, the lack of prowling predators, the muffled sonic booms of glaciers calving in the distance—will find plenty of them in this extraordinarily isolated place, right at the edge of the Greenland ice sheet.

Scientists alarmed to discover warm water at "vital point" beneath Antarctica's "doomsday glacier"
01 February 2020
Scientists have found warm water beneath Antarctica's "doomsday glacier," a nickname used because it is one of Antarctica's fastest melting glaciers. While researchers have observed the recession of the Thwaites Glacier for a decade, this marks the first time they detected the presence of warm water – found at a "vital point" beneath the glacier.

Even The 'Optimistic' Climate Change Forecast Can Be Catastrophic
31 January 2020
Humanity is on pace to heat Earth by around 3 degrees Celsius, or 5.4 degrees Fahrenheit, above pre-Industrial Revolution temperatures by the century's end. That level of warming would be devastating. Why? The world has warmed by a little over 1C so far. Look at what that has done to charred Australia, rapidly melting Greenland, and the relentlessly warming oceans.

Tropical forests and coral reefs are buckling under interacting threats
28 January 2020
Climate change, extreme weather, and human pressure are causing ecosystems across the tropics to collapse, a new study reports. The authors analyzed over 100 locations where tropical forests and coral reefs have been affected by hurricanes, floods, heatwaves, droughts, fires, and other types of extreme climate. The findings expand our understanding of the health of these ecosystems, especially in the wider context of climate change and damage caused by human activity.

Designing on-farm irrigation ponds for high and stable yield for different climates and risk-coping attitudes
31 January 2020
In many regions, precipitation does not reliably meet crop water demands - a situation that climate change will likely exacerbate. Supplemental irrigation can help enhance and stabilize crop yields, but the need of water for irrigation has often led to groundwater over-exploitation.

Shifts in Irrigation Water Demand and Supply Patterns during Critical Crop Growth Stages
31 January 2020
Changing irrigation water demand (IWD) and supply (IWS) patterns (size and time) under increased climate variability and socio-economic development is significantly effecting the water and food production in the densely populated South Asia (SA). Considering food security paradigm of SA, where rice and wheat are major staple and water-intensive crops, this study aims to investigate the linkages in IWD by crops and IWS by sources (surface and groundwater) using integrated climate and socio-economic projections.
